DIABLO REJECTED WORM!!!
Here’s a monster that didn’t make the cut! This has rarely been seen by anyone anywhere! A GIANT WORM! I proposed a worm because… well most dungeon games had worms at the time. Main reason he got the ax was his size; some of his animations went over the graphic threshold! Is he silly or really disturbing? He does look a little like the plant in Little Shop Of Horrors!
Oh well I had fun making this.

Here’s the original animations for the acid beast from DIABLO. I converted this from an old flic file to quicktime to PS6! Thank god QT handles flic files. Don’t think 3dsmax even bothers anymore! You can see the bubbly skin in the neutral pose and the intestinal flop in the death sequence. I cant remember if this was noticeable in the game due to palette limitations.
This was made with 3ds 4(not max) on a dos machine. This program wasn’t the best for organic shapes, so I remember booleaning a lot of cylinders and spheres to get a close resemblance to the concept art. I also used a mesh smoother/relaxer that came with bonespro.(This guy isn’t boned btw) It’s saving grace is you can’t see it up close! The blood was a clever use of tiny spheres and cranked-up motion blur. I textured this with autodesk animator pro. This was before photoshop was readily available on the PC.
Overall Not bad for mid 90’s!
